Director of Happiness.
About the role
We're looking for a Director of Happiness to join our Executive Office.
The successful candidate will help maintain a healthy balance between ambitious projects and actually enjoying life. This is a highly collaborative role with significant autonomy and plenty of room to shape the position.
While this is a strategic role, hand-on execution is occasionally expected.
Responsibilities
- Maintain and continuously improve overall happiness KPIs.
- Challenge unnecessary overthinking with evidence-based interventions.
- Encourage healthy work-life balance through spontaneous adventures, walks and occasional dancing.
- Schedule regular quality time while respecting independent routines.
- Provide honest feedback—even when it's not what the CEO wants to hear.
- Celebrate small wins before moving on to the next project.
- Handle sensitive matters personally and with discretion.
- Occasionally remind the CEO to eat, rest or stop trying to optimize absolutely everything.
- Support photography initiatives by tolerating brief, unavoidable waiting periods while "the light gets better."
- Participate in selected culinary research and development activities.
- Contribute to in-house cock-tail preparation on a regular basis.
- Maintain a psychologically safe environment where difficult conversations can happen without unnecessary drama.
- Be comfortable with occasional after-hours strategy sessions.
- Demonstrate good judgement when deciding whether to escalate matters.
- Ensure priorities remain aligned, even when things become... fluid.
- Accept that some conversations may begin with, "I have a tiny thought..."
Required qualifications
- Demonstrated emotional intelligence.
- Strong communication skills.
- Good listening skills, including sensitivity to non-verbal cues.
- Comfortable setting boundaries.
- Comfortable taking direction as well as giving it.
- Able to distinguish facts from stories the CEO occasionally invents in his own head.
- Hands-on mentality.
- Appreciation for curiosity, music and good food.
- Resilience and stamina under sustained load.
- Independent life outside of work.
- Comfortable with moderate levels of nerdiness.
Nice to have
- Festival experience.
- Ability to appreciate both quiet evenings and slightly chaotic weekends.
- Prior experience in a fast-paced, high-touch environment.
- Doesn't mind appearing in photos from time to time.
- Enjoys discovering cafés, restaurants or places without requiring a detailed spreadsheet first.
- Basic cat fluency ("mauu") is considered an advantage.
Benefits
- High degree of autonomy.
- Flexible working model with no mandatory office days.
- Generous overtime policy.
- Freedom to pursue personal projects and interests.
- Regular one-on-ones.
- Competitive snack budget.
- Access to experimental dinners before they become edible.
- Home-made cock-tails, mixed on request.
- Occasional airport pickup.
- Professional photography available upon request.
- Regular off-sites.
- Performance reviews are generally conducted face-to-face.
- Strong commitment to continuous improvement (sometimes perhaps a little too strong).
Our Culture
We believe the best partnerships are built on trust, independence and mutual curiosity.
Trust, in our experience, is built through repeated exposure.
We value honesty over perfection, communication over assumptions, and making memories over optimizing them.
We work in short, intense sprints followed by proper recovery.
You won't be expected to complete the CEO—you'll simply make an already good life even more enjoyable.
Our Values
- Curiosity over certainty.
- Independence over ownership.
- Chemistry over hierarchy.
- Clear communication beats mind reading.
- Enthusiastic participation is valued more than perfect execution.
- Mutual consent is the foundation of every project.
Application Process
Interested candidates are encouraged to apply whenever it feels right.
There are no artificial deadlines. We move at whatever pace the candidate is comfortable with.
Shortlisted candidates may be invited for an informal chemistry interview.
In fact, if you're reading this, there's a reasonable chance we've already been talking for a while.
References are welcome but not required. Mutual friends occasionally provide them anyway.
